Preteens: Passport to Purity

Hi everyone! If you have a preteen boy or girl (10-13) you have got to check this program out

http://www.familylife.com/passporttopurity/

In a nutshell, you take your preteen on a day and a half retreat somewhere, where you have discussions and do activities that teach them about their changing bodies and temptations they will face as they get older and more attracted to the opposite sex. I know people who have done it and both the parents and the kids have reported it to be a fun and memorable weekend that really makes a difference. You can get it here:

I have 2 girls, soon to be 13 and soon to be 10. I will be doing it this weekend with the 12 year old and can’t wait! I will do it with the 9 year old later this summer, since I’ve heard it is important to not wait too long, or else they are closed to the concepts because of what they’ve already been exposed to, or beliefs they’ve already formed, or ideas you’ve already discussed with them.

If you try it or have experience with it, let us know in the comments!!

I’m going to do this!I love finding any excuse to take my children to do something fun heh :) In any event, she’ll be 12 this summer, is very pure and innocent, and is about to start junior high (was in middle school) and I want her to feel comfortable in her own skin of just saying ‘no’ and having respect for herself and her body. I love the idea here! Thanks so much Karen!

This is a wonderful idea! We did something for our daughter. She and I went through a bible study on purity together, and then we prayed together to God, and she prayed that God would help her in this endeavor. I then made her a beautiful swarvoski crystal bracelet with a cross pendent and the silver letters TLW for True Love Waits. She can wear this to remember her promise to us and to God, and it is a great way to spread the word, and make purity a very cool thing!

Well we are back and it was AWESOME! It was very intense but my daughter kept talking about how much she is learning and she couldn’t get enough of the info. We got really behind schedule because Friday night she had a dance first and by the time we got to the campground and set up etc. she was just wiped out so we didn’t really start till Saturday morning. I strongly recommend NOT doing it that way! We didn’t eat dinner Saturday till almost 9pm!! So you definitely want to plan the time better than we did. I think they recommend from 5pm Friday and then getting up at 8:30 Saturday and going till 5 or so. There really isn’t any way to ‘rush through’ it even if you wanted to because of the CDs and activities AND more often than not you get into good conversations that stretch things out too.

It was just fantastic. Even this morning she woke up and went straight to her journal to read through it again, and was talking about things some more. I had given her a gold chain with her baby ring on it and she put it on right away and keeps touching it.

We had a lot of laughs, especially with the birds and the bees talk. She kept cracking up saying TMI TMI! It was so cute. She just really had no idea about so many things but had heard her friends talking about it so I am glad I was able to explain things my way before they get to deep at school.

I just can’t say enough good things about this program. I can’t wait to do it with my next daughter!!
