Flannel Board Story Telling Videos

by funfelt on July 7, 2008

Hi everyone! I’ve recently become aware that there are many videos online showing teachers, childcare providers and librarians telling felt board stories! I thought I’d share them here in case you’d like to see the techniques they use, or just for fun to show the kids!

Does anyone recall a couple back in the 1940s through 1960s who visited elementary schools using Bible stories on a large felt board? Mrs. R. M. Ohly was a regular visitor to my grade school for years and told stories with characters that would stick to the felt board. I thought it was total magic. It would be illegal in our “free” country today for that to be done in any public school.

Actually at my son’s school there’s a SNAKE LADY who comes in once in a while and just goes classroom to classroom with a pillowcase of snakes to show the kids! LOL So you never know. I imagine your Mrs R M Ohly had an in with the school secretary or something! Sounds like fun. I love the magic of felt board stories. When I was substitute teaching they were my best tool for crowd control at any age level even 5th and 6th graders!!
