This week we have another crafty idea from my felt friend, Awnya! THANKS Awnya!

Animal Note HoldersÂ

First you will want to choose an animal for your inspiration. I like cows, sheep and dogs the best. I will give you the instructions for a sheep.

First, cut a 3″ round circle out of cardstock. This will be the body.

Then you are going to cut a pear shaped piece out of black paper that will serve as the face, so you will want it to be maybe 1 to 3/4 at the fattest part. It’s up to you. Also, you will need to oval little ears out of the black.
Glue 2 goggle eyes to the face and you are done with it for a minute.

For the body, you are going to want to add fur, so what I recommend doing is clearing out your paper shredder and putting some blank white paper or construction paper through. If it is a cross cut shredder, the pieces should be about perfect; if not, take the strips and cut them into 1″ pieces. Another way to do it if you don’t have a shredder is 1/8-inch strips and then when you have a bunch of those, cut them into 1″ long.

Now you want smear the body with a nice amount of Elmer’s glue. Heap the fur parts onto the body and press down a little bit to make stick. When this is dry, you want a grown up to hot glue 2 clothes pins to the back of the big circle. You want the pinchy part at the top to hold notes or reminders. The bottoms you want to hang out below the circle to serve as the legs of your critter. Hot glue the face on the front and you are done!!

For a fun twist, glue magnets on the back and you have a fun fridge pal.
Cows, use white and black mixed together. For a puppy, we used a light brown background, face and ears, and then darker brown fur. We also drew a nose and happy face on the puppy and cow.

Dirty Dessert

Dirty Dessert

This is a pudding made with crushed Oreo cookies. You cover the top of the pudding with the crushed cookies and it looks like dirt. You can make it in a clay pot (new and washed) and buy silk flowers and wash the stem and put it in the pudding. It makes a great centerpiece, and then you can eat it! You can also just make it in clear plastic cups. You can even put gummy worms in the ‘dirt’ for fun!

Ingredients:
1/2Â stick butter
8 oz. cream cheese
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2 (sm.) packets of vanilla pudding
3 cups of milk

Mix all ingredients and fold in 12 oz. tub of whipped cream. Crush 1 package of Oreos and layer in the cup or flower pot alternating with the pudding mixture, ending with more crushed cookies! Add a gummy worm or other creepy crawlies, and a plastic or silk flower.

Rainbow Craft Mobile

Posted by funfelt on Friday Jul 21, 2006 Under Arts and Crafts, Science

Hi everyone!

I know we don’t usually think of July as a “rainbow” month, but with all the crazy rain people have had around the country I thought it would make a fun summer project!

This is a paper ranbow mobile craft. You will need the following colored construction paper circles, either precut for little ones, or traced preschool/kindergarteners, or for older school aged kids, ready to measure, trace and cut out:

9 inch red circle

8 inch orange circle

7 inch yellow circle

6 inch green circle

5 inch blue circle

4 inch purple circle

If you don’t have an easy way to measure these, just find graduated sizes of circular household objects to trace such as butter tub lids, bowls, cups, etc. As long as they get smaller as you go down the colors, it works!

Have the child start with the orange circle on the table, and then glue the successively smaller circles on top, one by one.

Let the whole thing dry, and then cut the whole thing in half down the center. Place a string or yarn loop in the middle and glue the 2 halves back to back. Hang them up to admire!

Since the kids don’t glue them exactly in the center, they turn out really neat, each one with its own personality!

Have fun!
